Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking an Optical Lab Technician to join the OptimEyes finishing line. You will develop expertise across the complete eyeglass production process, handling frames, lenses, tinting, and finishing with precision.

The role requires dexterity, basic computer skills to read machine commands, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Training is provided, and growth into advanced repair skills is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years of experience in an Optical lab preferred.
  • Basic computer skills to read and execute machine commands.
  • Dexterity to handle small tools and parts such as screwdrivers and frame screws.
  • Ability to understand verbal and/or written instructions; good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently; training available.

Responsibilities

  • Master tracing frames and mounting lenses across metal, semi-rimless, and plastic frames.
  • Develop proficiency in lens blocking and deblocking for the surfacing line.
  • Manage job tray movement to maintain production workflow.
  • Operate semi-automatic finish blockers and edging equipment with accuracy.
  • Perform lens tinting following established protocols and verify lens specs with lensometers.
  • Make cosmetic defect checks using arc lamp inspections and witness engravings on progressive lenses.
  • Repair eyeglasses including screw and eye wire replacement, lens resizing, and frame adjustments.
  • Progress toward advanced frame repair skills, including temple end replacement and equipment calibration.
  • Follow detailed process instructions and uphold 6S in the work area.
