Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking an Optical Dispenser to ensure patients receive perfectly fitted eyewear, interpreting prescriptions, adjusting frames, and delivering an exceptional patient experience with precision and care.

In this retail optical role, you will inspect orders, verify accuracy, undergo lensometry, and assist with eyewear care and insurance processing, contributing to patient satisfaction and eyewear quality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous computer experience and basic math skills preferred.
• Previous customer service, hospitality, or retail experience preferred.
• Must be able to walk, bend and stand for extended periods.
• Completion of all required training courses as directed by Henry Ford OptimEyes.

Responsibilities

• Inspect eyewear orders and verify accuracy prior to patient delivery, ensuring quality standards are met.
• Dispense eyewear using the E.A.R.N. for Dispensing process to deliver consistent patient experiences.
• Master dispensing tools and use them proficiently.
• Fit eyewear with precision through frame adjustments tailored to each patient.
• Educate patients on eyewear care and cleaning regimens to maximize longevity.
• Process eyewear delivery orders in our software and maintain delivery status reports.
• Perform frame and lens repairs, troubleshoot vision and frame issues with accuracy.
• Verify prescriptions by analyzing data, base curves, PDs, and visual acuity; adjust as needed.
• Neutralize and verify spectacle prescriptions using auto and manual lensometry.
• Explain lens family options and benefits to help patients decide.
• Demonstrate knowledge of frame materials to ensure proper adjustment and repair.
• Process remake orders and apply vision insurance coverage.
• Support patient eyewear orders with knowledgeable guidance throughout.
