Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a MBU Mechanical Shop Inspector in Newton, NJ to uphold high-quality standards in the supply chain. You will inspect high-precision mechanical components using metrology equipment, document results, and ensure conformance to ISO9001 and internal standards.

The role requires 1–3 years' related experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to read blueprints and use micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Independent, detail-minded team players preferred.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of related experience a plus.
• High School or Trade School diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to learn to interpret mechanical blueprint specifications with basic GD&T knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Unbiased evaluation of internally produced items to blueprint specifications and manufacturing standards.
• Utilize inspection equipment and methods to measure highly toleranced components.
• Document accurate, thorough dimensional and visual inspections (first article, in-process, sample lot).
• Segregate and clearly mark non-conforming material; sort and rework as required.
• Ensure components are handled carefully, clearly marked, and organized with accurate quantities.
• Ensure calibrated and well-maintained equipment is used and kept up to date.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Continuously strive to improve quality, processes, procedures, communication, and documentation.
