This level builds on foundational competencies and requires mastery of precision measurement, complex alignment techniques, and advanced mechanical systems.QualificationsEducation & TrainingHigh School Diploma or GED is required.NCCER Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (IMM) level 3 certification or equivalent training or equivalent experience in precision measuring, complex mechanical component installation, and alignment procedures.Technical Skills & KnowledgeBlueprint & schematic reading for complex industrial equipment.Precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, laser alignment systems).Advanced alignment techniques (prealignment, shim fabrication, dial indicator alignment).Fabrication & repair of machine parts, including welding, grinding, and turning.Hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems knowledge (pumps, compressors, couplings, bearings, seals).Vibration analysis and troubleshooting of rotating equipment.Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial conveyors.Rigging & hoisting for heavy machinery installation and maintenance.ExperienceExperience with precision alignment and preventive maintenance of large-scale machinery.Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their repair.Industrial machinist experience and/or precision mechanical rebuild experience.Soft SkillsAttention to detail and accuracy in measurements and assembly.Problem-solving and troubleshooting of complex mechanical issues.Time management and ability to work independently or in teams.Communication skills for safety and technical coordination.Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or on-call.Certifications & ComplianceKnowledge of MSHA or other industry-specific regulations if applicable.Ability to follow and enforce safety and quality procedures.SummaryPrecision Millwrights must combine advanced technical expertise in machinery alignment, fabrication, and system maintenance with strong safety and organizational skills.
