Job summary

Motion Industries in Monroe, LA seeks an experienced machinist to set up, operate and adjust conventional and automated machines, producing parts from detailed drawings. You will use lathes, milling machines and grinders and ensure parts meet tolerances using micrometers and gauges.

The role requires the ability to read blueprints, select appropriate tools and sequence operations, and maintain equipment to high standards. A high school diploma or GED is typically required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of various metals and measurements used in machining processes.
• Knowledge of machinist, CAD and/or CAM software.
• Knowledge of mathematics and its application.
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques.
• Knowledge of monitoring gauges, dials or other indicators to ensure proper machine operation.

Responsibilities

• Machine parts to specifications using lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders.
• Set up, adjust or operate basic or specialized machine tools for precision machining.
• Measure and test completed units with micrometers or Vernier calipers to ensure tolerance.
• Monitor feed and speed of machines during machining operations.
• Maintain machine tools and verify equipment operates efficiently.
• Read drawings/blueprints to determine methods and sequence of operations.
• Range of operations includes metalworking, brazing, heat-treating, welding or cutting.
• Install repaired or new parts into equipment and fixtures as required.
