Job summary

Ashton North LLC is seeking a skilled Machinist in Salisbury, NC to set up and operate CNC and manual mills and lathes, producing precision parts for large equipment in a low-volume environment.

You will read blueprints, select tooling, edit CNC programs, and inspect parts with precision instruments. Collaboration with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams ensures on-time production while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience operating CNC and manual machine tools in a manufacturing or job shop environment.
• Experience with setting up and running lathes and mills, working with low-volume work.
• Strong ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings, including GD&T basics.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and quality inspection methods.
• Working knowledge of CNC setup and program editing (Fanuc or similar controls preferred).
• Solid understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling selection, and materials (steel, aluminum, and similar).
• Strong math and problem-solving skills; attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production setting.
• High school diploma or equivalent; machining certification or technical training a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and manual mills, lathes, and related machine tools to produce parts to print specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequence.
• Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and work-holding methods for each job.
• Write, change, and prove out all CNC programs; troubleshoot and adjust programs to correct issues during production runs.
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.) to verify conformance to specifications.
• Report equipment issues promptly.
• Coordinate with fabrication, weld, and assembly supervisors to keep parts flowing on schedule.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop safety standards.
• Accurately document completed work, scrap, and downtime as required.
