Overview
An established manufacturer of large equipment is seeking a skilled Machinist to join its production team. In this role, you will set up and operate both CNC and manual machine tools, lathes, and mills to produce precision parts in a low-volume work environment, collaborating closely with fabrication, welding, assembly, and scheduling teams to keep jobs on track and meet quality standards.
What you'll do
- Set up and operate CNC and manual mills, lathes, and related machine tools to produce parts to print specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequence
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and work-holding methods for each job
- Write, change, and prove out all CNC programs; troubleshoot and adjust programs to correct issues during production runs
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.) to verify conformance to specifications
- Report equipment issues promptly
- Coordinate with fabrication, weld, and assembly supervisors to keep parts flowing on schedule
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop safety standards
- Accurately document completed work, scrap, and downtime as required
Required qualifications
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience operating CNC and manual machine tools in a manufacturing or job shop environment
- Experience with setting up and running lathes and mills, working with low-volume work
- Strong ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings, including GD&T basics
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and quality inspection methods
- Working knowledge of CNC setup and program editing
- Solid understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling selection, and materials (steel, aluminum, and similar)
- Strong math and problem-solving skills; attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production setting
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Hands-on experience setting up CNC and manual machines in a job shop environment
Preferred qualifications
- Fanuc or similar controls experience preferred
- Machining certification or technical training a plus
