Job summary

Reading Bakery Systems is seeking a 2nd Shift Machinist to join our Manufacturing team at our Robesonia, PA location. This role interprets engineering drawings and operates manual and CNC metal cutting equipment to manufacture high-precision component parts for industrial bakery systems.

The Machinist collaborates with Engineering and Manufacturing leadership to ensure parts meet quality standards and support efficient assembly operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Vocational or technical machining training preferred.
• Experience operating manual and CNC machining equipment.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, and procedure manuals.
• Knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
• Ability to edit or write simple CNC programs using G-code and M-code.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of how machined components function within industrial equipment.
• Basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and machine‑assisted equipment safely.
• Strong attention to detail, quality, safety, and communication.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings, BOMs to determine machining and assembly requirements.
• Set up and operate saws, drill presses, lathes, surface grinders, CNC centers, and CNC lathes.
• Select cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and cutting fluids to maintain dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.
• Edit or write simple CNC programs using G-code and M-code.
• Inspect parts during machining using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Align, fit, deburr, polish, attach, tighten, and adjust machined parts and assemblies.
• Make mechanical adjustments to maintain proper clearances, operating parameters, and accuracy.
• Support assembly of industrial bakery machinery, including fitting components and basic welding.
• Organize component parts and subassemblies to support production flow.
• Complete required production and quality control records.
• Clean equipment and maintain a safe, organized work area.
• Follow company safety policies, occupational health programs, and operating procedures.
• Provide feedback to coworkers, supervisors, and management to support efficient manufacturing operations.
• When needed, assist with Machinist Coordinator duties and provide technical guidance.
