Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding operates in Goose Creek, SC and seeks a skilled machinist to work with light-duty bench- or floor-type tools. You will set up machines, perform adjustments, and inspect parts to meet precise tolerances.

Responsibilities include using lathes, mills, drills and related equipment, maintaining machines, and verifying quality with gauges. Requires a HS diploma plus 2 years of related experience; apprentices or associates may qualify with 1 year experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years related education/experience; may require apprenticeship.
• Apprentice graduate or Associate's Degree in relevant discipline with 1 year related experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and equipment such as small lathes, power mills, drills or punch presses.
• Set up machining machines, make adjustments, and perform maintenance on machines.
• Check work using prescribed gauges, jigs and fixtures to measure close tolerances; ensure quality per procedures.

Education

HS diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years related experience

Apprentice graduate or Associate's Degree in a relevant discipline, plus 1 year related experience
