Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, in Goose Creek, SC, is seeking a skilled machinist to operate light-duty bench- or floor-type tools such as lathes, mills, drills, and punches. You may set up machines, adjust settings, and inspect parts for tight tolerances using gauges and fixtures.

A high school diploma or equivalent with related experience is required; an apprentice graduate or associate degree with one year of related work is preferred, and certification may be required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with 2 years related experience.
• Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 1 year of related experience
• May require certification

Responsibilities

• Operates light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and equipment such as small lathes, power mills, extruding machines, drills or punch presses, power brakes, shears or saws.
• May set up machining machines and make adjustments, and perform maintenance on machines.
• Checks work using prescribed gauges, jigs and fixtures to measure close tolerances.
