HII Newport News Shipbuilding seeks skilled machinists to operate light-duty machine tools and perform setup, adjustments, and maintenance. You will read blueprints, measure to tolerance, and ensure quality using gauges and fixtures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
• Apprentice graduate/Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 1 year of related experience.
• Certification may be required.

Responsibilities

• Operates light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and equipment such as small lathes, power mills, drills, punches or saws.
• Sets up machines, makes adjustments and performs routine maintenance.
• Checks work with gauges, jigs and fixtures to verify close tolerances.
• Monitors and verifies quality per statistical process controls.
