Job summary

SSAB in Northport, Alabama seeks a skilled machine operator to perform setups, operate and maintain production equipment, and ensure quality parts meet customer specifications. You will read blueprints, measure with calipers and micrometers, and handle forklift and crane tasks while maintaining accurate records.

Required is a high school diploma and 1–2+ years in manufacturing; forklift and driver’s licenses are required, weld/crane certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2+ years as a machine operator in manufacturing.
• Ability to operate diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools.
• Forklift certification and valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Perform machine setups and start production cycles, load and unload work pieces.
• Operate special-purpose machines and ensure parts meet customer specs.
• Inspect welded pieces with calipers and micrometers for conformance.
• Maintain welders and machines; replace worn accessories and perform routine cleaning.
• Ensure equipment operates safely; report and coordinate repairs with suppliers.
• Use hand tools, forklift, and crane; obtain required certifications.
• Inspect parts and keep production records; maintain activity logs and schedules.
• Study blueprints to ensure production accuracy and timely material preparation.
