Job summary

Corning’s Optical Communications segment seeks a Precision Machine Design Engineer to develop precision machine systems from concept to production, under guidance from senior engineers. You will create designs for prototype and manufacturing equipment, and collaborate with researchers, manufacturing teams, and suppliers.

You will build 3D CAD models, perform tolerance analyses, and contribute to design reviews, documentation, and testing. Travel up to 25% may be required as projects demand.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience in machine design, equipment development, product development, manufacturing engineering, or related area; co‑op, internship, research, or project experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated experience applying mechanical engineering fundamentals through academic projects, internships, co‑op assignments, research, or professional work.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop precision machine systems and components.
• Translate product and process needs into mechanical requirements, designs, layouts, models and drawings.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, BOMs and documentation.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and tolerance analyses.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to obtain parts and support assembly.
• Assist with machine setup, debugging, qualification, and implementation in lab/manufacturing environments.
• Document findings and communicate progress to project teams.
