Job summary

Corning Inc. in Sullivan Park, Corning, NY, invites applications for two Machine Design Engineer - Precision Systems roles. You’ll design and develop custom precision machines, tooling, fixturing, and mechanical subsystems for product development and manufacturing.

Your work spans from concept through prototype to production-ready implementation, applying mechatronics, automation, and metrology skills to enable next-generation glass and materials processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Experience designing and developing complex mechanical systems and tooling.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop custom precision machines, tooling, fixturing, and subsystems.
• Create robust mechanical solutions for new equipment and capabilities.
• Translate requirements into equipment designs, performance specs, and system functionality.
• Solve challenges involving precision motion, tolerance, robustness, and integration.
• Work across prototypes, development platforms, and production-capable machine systems.
• Integrate commercially available technologies into custom machine solutions.
• Collaborate with Research, Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, controls, and scientists.
• Use analysis and prototyping to reduce risk and improve equipment performance.
• Support installation, debug, start-up, and transfer activities.
