Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard is seeking a 2nd Class Inside Machinist for Steel America in Norfolk, VA. The role involves precision machining, reading blueprints, and fabricating ship components using manual tools.

You’ll work with senior technicians and support production with flexible hours and potential travel. Required at least 3 years’ experience, knowledge of blueprint reading, quality control and proficiency with lathes, mills and grinders.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years as an inside machinist with precision work.
• Knowledge of precision machining, blueprint reading and quality control.
• Experience operating manual machines such as lathes, mills and grinders.

Responsibilities

• Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders and similar tools to repair or fabricate components.
• Read blueprints and specifications to determine machining requirements.
• Set up tools, verify measurements and tolerances, and adjust as needed.
• Inspect parts with micrometers, calipers and gauges for conformance.
• Collaborate with seniors and other trades to ensure timely completion.
