Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health is seeking a Grossing Autopsy Technician to support Anatomic Pathology. The role involves macroscopic description of specimens, documentation of measurements, and performing grossing work under supervision to assist diagnosis and patient care.

The position requires an Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology (or a Bachelor’s in Biological Science preferred), and prior laboratory experience with biohazards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science from an accredited institution.
• Previous laboratory work experience or experience with biohazard procedures and precautions.
• Effective oral and written communication skills; effective team and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Grossing autopsy specimens: describe macroscopic features, document dimensions and appearance.
• Perform morgue duties, including releasing remains in a limited backup capacity.
• Maintain supply and reagent inventory and enforce safety regulations.
• Work under supervision of Pathologists or Pathologists’ Assistants.
