Job summary

NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD seeks a PAINTER for the Preservation Shop (Code 970) within the Production Resources Department. The role focuses on surface preparation, coating application, and quality control in a naval shipyard setting.

Candidates must read and follow complex specifications, work with various spraying systems, and participate in safety and medical surveillance programs as required for DoD employment.

Qualifications

• Experience with surface preparation and coating application.
• Ability to read and follow complex instructions, drawings and standards.
• Knowledge of modern coatings and application techniques.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces and apply coatings per specifications.
• Blast and create surface profiles suitable for coating build up and leveling.
• Interpret drawings and manufacturing requirements; ensure quality control.
