Job summary

Magnetic Component Engineering, based in Torrance, CA, is seeking a skilled Machinist to perform production and prototype machining of steel alloys, stainless steel, and magnetic materials in a low volume, high mix setting. You will operate multi-axis lathes and mills to tight tolerances and support training for junior machinists while learning advanced setups and quality documentation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Trade school certification in Machining preferred.
• 3 years’ experience machining low volume, highly engineered product with zero or little scrap, or 1 year experience with a trade school certification in Machining.
• A basic knowledge of blueprint reading and GD&T
• An understanding of G&M code programs
• Excellent problem-solving skills; uses rigorous logic and methods to solve problems producing effective solutions to problem statements.
• Strong technical skills. Ability to set up and run with minimal guidance a variety of machines while holding very tight tolerances to produce quality parts to spec on short run parts (first part, good part).
• Strong machine shop math and complex blueprint reading skills, including GD&T.
• Knowledge and use of a wide variety of precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to read and comprehend G&M code programs

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate multi-axis lathes and mills and other related equipment holding tight tolerances to customer drawings and specifications.
• Assist with training of level l CNC machinist.
• Learn complex set ups on multi-axis lathes and mills.
• Machine workpieces to meet timing and true axial runout requirements.
• Create setup kits and sheets to minimize setup time.
• Sharpen cutting tools and rework holders.
• Sharpen tools on cutters and grinders; redress tools that wear out.
• Use advanced inspection equipment, e.g., CMM and digital optical measuring.
• Write G&M code programs.
• Conduct first piece inspection and provide quality documentation.
• Use hand tools and precision measuring equipment and gages.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, 5S and housekeeping duties.
• Assist with special projects as assigned
