The ideal candidate has strong CNC machining experience, advanced blueprint reading skills, and the ability to consistently produce complex components to extremely tight tolerances.

Position Summary

The Senior CNC Machinist will set up and operate multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to manufacture production and prototype components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions. This position requires precision machining expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining demanding quality standards.

Parts may be manufactured from steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminum, titanium, engineering plastics, and magnetic materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate multi-axis CNC mills and lathes, including 5-axis milling equipment, to manufacture complex precision components.
• Machine parts to extremely tight tolerances, including tolerances as close as ±2 microns.
• Perform moderately complex to advanced machine setups in a low-volume, high-mix production environment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, and machining specifications.
• Write, edit, and troubleshoot basic G-code and M-code programs.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, tooling configurations, speeds, and feeds to optimize machining performance.
• Perform first-piece inspections and complete required quality documentation.
• Operate precision inspection equipment, including CMMs and digital optical measuring systems.
• Create setup kits and setup sheets to improve consistency and reduce machine setup times.
• Machine workpiece collets to meet timing and true axial runout requirements.
• Sharpen cutting tools, rework tool holders, and perform related tooling maintenance.
• Provide technical guidance and training to junior CNC machinists on setups, machining techniques, and tool sharpening.
• Perform preventive maintenance, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and follow 5S practices.
• Assist with special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• At least 5 years of experience machining low-volume, highly engineered components with minimal or no scrap; alternatively, 3 years of relevant machining experience combined with a machining trade school certification.
• Strong experience setting up and operating CNC milling machines, particularly 5-axis equipment.
• At least 1 year of experience writing basic G-code and M-code programs.
• Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
• Experience machining complex components to tight tolerances.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Strong CNC setup, operation, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to produce high-quality parts with minimal supervision, including first-piece acceptance on short production runs.
• Excellent understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, speeds, and feeds.
• Strong shop mathematics and advanced technical drawing interpretation skills.
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, gauges, CMMs, and optical measurement equipment.
• Ability to read, write, and understand G-code and M-code programs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve machining challenges.
• Attention to detail, commitment to quality, and a continuous improvement mindset.
• Ability to assist with training and mentoring less-experienced machinists.

Compensation

$34–$37 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
