Job summary

Barnes Group in Lansing, MI is seeking a machinist to set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, grinders and related equipment to meet precise customer specifications. You will read blueprints, use calibrated tools and document work accordingly.

Candidates should have 1–3 years machining experience, preferably in aerospace, and be proficient with GD&T. A high school diploma or GED plus technical training is valued; safety and quality come first.

Qualifications

• More than 1 year at previous or recent employer.
• 1–3 years of experience as a machinist.
• Aerospace experience preferred, but not required.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T.
• Troubleshoot and solve tooling and machining problems.
• Use hand tools such as grinders, belt sanders, band saws and drill presses.
• Willingness and ability to learn and retain new skills.
• Compliance with general attendance standards.
• Read and understand written instructions, procedures, safety rules and operating instructions.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate a variety of machines across production stages (CNC Mills, lathes, grinders) to meet customer tolerances.
• Use calibrated tools and measuring devices to ensure parts meet specifications.
• Complete required paperwork and checklists.
• Collaborate with toolmakers, engineers, program managers and quality personnel to resolve problems and ensure parts meet specifications.
• Work with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.
