Job summary

American Axle & Mfg., Inc. in Detroit, MI seeks a CNC Grinding Process Development Specialist to lead the development, optimization, and implementation of ID/OD grinding and surface finishing for precision components.

You will have hands-on experience with grinding equipment, wheel selection, workholding, coolant management, dressing technologies, and CNC grinding programs, working within the Driveline Process Development group at the Advanced Technology Development Center in Detroit.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years' hands-on experience in precision ID/OD grinding.
Strong knowledge of CNC grinding equipment and grinding process development.
Experience with grinding wheels, abrasives, dressing technologies, and coolant systems.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
Excellent problem-solving and autonomy, with ability to collaborate with engineering and production teams.
Studer CNC Grind experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Develop and optimize ID and OD grinding processes for new and existing products.
Select grinding wheels, abrasives, dressings, coolants, and workholding methods.
Develop CNC grinding programs and optimize existing programs for quality and productivity.
Conduct process trials, capability studies, and run-at-rate evaluations.
Troubleshoot grinding issues such as taper, out-of-roundness, chatter, burning, and surface finish.
Document processes and support continuous improvement efforts.
