Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Day Surgery Pre Op role in Houston. You will evaluate patients prior to surgery, educate families, and manage preoperative therapies to ensure safety and efficiency.

You’ll collaborate with surgeons, nursing, and tech teams, applying the nursing process and evidence-based practices while maintaining high patient-centered standards. On-call may be required for some shifts.

Qualifications

• BCLS certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
• RN license must be obtained/maintained within 6 months of employment start date.
• Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree must be completed within 6 months of start date.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including IV therapy and preoperative meds.
• Verify surgical site and participate in briefing/time-out/debriefing.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and promote evidence-based practices.
• Be part of an interdisciplinary team with providers, surgeons and techs.
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to safe care.
• Assess patient condition, monitor, document changes during shift.
• Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatments and follow-up.
