Job summary

Methodist Hospital Westover Hills in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Registered Nurse RN PreOp. You will influence patient care through collaboration with managers and nursing councils, supporting safe, high-quality perioperative care.

Responsibilities include preoperative assessment, patient education, IV therapy and site verification, teamwork with surgeons and techs, adherence to universal protocols, and continuous improvement of patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• ACLS must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
• Graduate of an accredited diploma, associates, or baccalaureate degree registered nursing program.
• Minimum of six (6) months of clinical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse.
• Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (RN Compact License holders must obtain Texas RN License within 60 days of hire).
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process.
• Prepare patients, including intravenous therapy and preoperative medications, and verify surgical site.
• Participate in surgical site verification and universal protocols.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with evidence-based practices and continuous improvement.
• Be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team with providers, surgeons, technologists, and more.
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to deliver safe nursing care.
• Assess patient condition, monitor during shift, and document changes thoroughly.
• Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up.
