Job summary

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is seeking an experienced Pre-Op Registered Nurse for a Part Time-Days position in Washington, DC. The Pre-Op RN will assess patients, prepare them for surgery, and collaborate with surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure safety and readiness.

The role requires a DC RN license, BSN preferred, and a minimum of 2 years in perioperative nursing with BLS; ACLS preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• DC RN License required.
• BSN preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of perioperative nursing experience required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive preoperative patient assessments, including medical history, medication review, allergies, and vital signs.
• Verify surgical consent forms, physician orders, and required documentation.
• Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgical procedures.
• Initiate IV access and administer medications as ordered.
• Ensure completion of required preoperative testing and laboratory results.
• Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, postoperative expectations, and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and perioperative staff to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation within the electronic medical record.
• Monitor patient condition and report changes to appropriate providers.
• Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory compliance standards.
• Assist with patient transport and positioning as needed.
• Support efficient patient flow and surgical schedule coordination.
