Job summary

USPI TOPS Specialty Surgical Hospital in Houston is seeking a Per-Diem Pre-Admissions Testing (PAT) Nurse to support safe, efficient patient flow prior to procedures. The PAT nurse will perform pre-operative assessments, coordinate clearances with surgeons and anesthesiologists, educate patients on fasting and medication management, and ensure all documentation is complete.

Qualifications

Must hold an RN license and be eligible to practice in the state of Texas.
BLS certification required.
Minimum 1 year of pre-op, PACU, or pre-admissions experience.
Familiarity with EMR systems and surgical workflows.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Strong attention to detail and organization.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Compassionate and professional patient interaction.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Responsibilities

Perform pre-operative assessments by phone or in person.
Coordinate clearances with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and PCPs for labs and approvals.
Educate patients on pre-surgery instructions, including fasting and medications.
Ensure all required documentation is complete prior to the scheduled procedure.
Identify health concerns that may affect surgical clearance.
Maintain accurate EMR charting.
Support patient safety, satisfaction, and readiness through proactive communication and education.
