Job summary

United Surgical Partners International's Memorial Hermann Endoscopy Center North Freeway is seeking a motivated RN PAT to organize preadmission activities and coordinate care for pediatric through geriatric patients undergoing surgery in Houston, TX.

The Preadmission Nurse will perform preoperative history review, anesthesia and lab coordination, and patient teaching, maintaining nursing processes and patient confidentiality. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred due to patient population.

Qualifications

  • Active Texas Nursing License.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum 2-year hospital experience.

Responsibilities

USPIMemorial Hermann Endoscopy Center North Freeway, is seeking a motivated RN PAT to join our team. Memorial Hermann Endoscopy Center North Loop is a multi-specialty surgery center committed to producing the highest quality work and experience for patients and their families.

Job Summary:

The Preadmission Nurse (PAT RN) has the responsibility for organizing and directing activities in accordance with nursing standards, and applicable federal, state and local guidelines. PAT RN may assume the following responsibilities: contact, by way of telephone, patients prior to surgery to assess medical and medication history, review for appropriate lab, x‑ray, EKG orders to determine where and when these procedures are to be completed and provide preadmission teaching. The RN can expect to care for adult patients, including the older adult through geriatric, and pediatric patients from 4 months through adolescence. The RN may perform laboratory testing required prior to surgery as ordered.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans and prepared for the preadmission of the patient.
  • Meets all required deadlines. Demonstrates discretionary ability in establishing priority.
  • Delivers indirect and direct patient care according to established standards, taking into consideration the age and risk factors of the patient.
  • Possess the knowledge and ability to use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of the patient.
  • Uses nursing judgment in decision-making.
  • Acts as a patient advocate in meeting his/her physical and psychological needs.
  • Performs patient assessment and reassessment immediately upon admission and on a regular basis in accordance with standards of care with documentation of these assessments as a basis for planning each patient’s care.
  • Ensures that all nursing interventions and patients’ responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Integrates and coordinates care across settings and among disciplines.
  • Implements physician’s orders effectively and safely in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Ability to recognize and intervene in stressful situations.
  • Maintains BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications as applicable.
  • Maintains or acquires skills on equipment necessary to complete required responsibilities.
  • Documents all records according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assesses information/documents on AdvantX, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Assists with reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Performs effectively in stressful situations to fulfill position responsibilities.
  • Provides teaching to patient/parent of child per level of understanding.
  • Performs additional duties as needed by the department.
Qualifications:
  • Current Texas Nursing License
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum 2‑year experience in a hospital setting
  • Ability to recognize, evaluates, solve problems and correct errors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital staff, physicians, vendors and the public.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, openness, receptive to change, creativity and innovative.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient
  • Understands principles of aseptic technique and their implementation
  • Ability to care for patients from infancy to geriatrics
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Basic knowledge of Performance Improvement ideology

Due to patient population speaks only Spanish, a candidate for this position will have to be bilingual (English/Spanish).
