Job summary

Thompson Law is seeking a Pre-Litigation Attorney in San Antonio, TX to manage a robust personal injury pre-litigation docket. You will work with senior attorneys to build liability, coverage, and damages, oversee medical build-up, and guide settlements toward favorable results.

You will be mentored in case selection, negotiations, and strategy, with a focus on client advocacy, treatment coordination, and efficient case progression within a supportive team at Thompson Law.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• 3–8 years of legal experience, including at least 2 years of personal injury experience (plaintiff or defense).
• Hands-on experience evaluating liability and coverage, working with medical records and treatment, valuing claims, and negotiating with adjusters.
• Strong organization and attention to detail; manage a robust docket and meet deadlines.
• Clear and effective communication with clients, adjusters, medical providers, fellow attorneys and paralegals.
• Proficiency with legal research databases, case management software, and modern legal technology, including responsible use of AI.
• A genuine desire to advocate for injured people and help clients achieve strong recoveries.

Responsibilities

• Manage Your Pre-Litigation Docket: Own a docket of personal injury cases in pre-litigation—developing liability, coverage, and damages theories and moving files toward settlement.
• Evaluate the Cases: Work up liability, coverage, and damages on new matters and decide what moves forward, what is rejected, and what needs special handling.
• Guide Treatment: Coordinate with treatment paralegals and providers to understand injuries and future care needs, ensuring medical build-up supports the case.
• Build the Demand: Review and approve demand packages, pressure-testing liability, confirming coverage, and setting settlement ranges.
• Drive Settlement: Value cases, direct negotiations, and engage with adjusters to maximize recovery; know when to hand to litigation.
• Protect the Client's Net: Review distributions and coordinate with lien specialists to resolve hospital, health-plan, ERISA, Medicare, and Medicaid liens.
• Lead Your Team: Direct and support paralegals and assistants to maintain excellence and collaboration.
• Serve as Client Advocate: Keep clients informed and advise on treatment, progress, and settlement decisions with clarity and compassion.
• Grow as a Personal Injury Lawyer: Learn from senior attorneys and contribute ideas to how we build and settle cases across Texas.
