Job summary

Thompson Law in San Antonio, TX seeks a Pre-Litigation Attorney to own a personal injury pre-litigation docket, developing liability, coverage, and damages theories and moving files toward settlement.

You will work with senior attorneys and mentors, guide medical treatment discussions, build demand packages, and drive settlements while protecting clients’ net and handling lien issues.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• 3–8 years of legal experience, including at least 2 years in personal injury (plaintiff or defense).
• Hands-on experience evaluating liability and coverage, working with medical records, valuing claims, and negotiating with adjusters.

Responsibilities

• Own a pre-litigation docket and develop liability, coverage, and damages theories.
• Evaluate new matters and decide what moves forward, what gets rejected, and what needs special handling.
• Guide treatment by coordinating with treatment paralegals and providers to understand injuries, treatment, and future care needs.
• Build and approve demand packages, pressure-testing liability, confirming coverage, and setting settlement ranges.
• Drive settlements by directing negotiations paralegals and negotiating with adjusters to maximize recovery.
• Review reduction worksheets and final distributions, and resolve hospital, health-plan, ERISA, Medicare, and Medicaid liens.
• Direct and support assigned paralegals and assistants, maintaining excellence and collaboration.
• Advise clients on treatment, progress, and settlement decisions with clarity and compassion.
• Grow by learning from senior attorneys and taking on increasing responsibility.
