Job description

Pre‑K Special Ed Ed Tech III (Full Time) – Multiple Openings District Wide
Position Overview

We are seeking several Pre‑K Special Ed Education Technicians to provide dedicated classroom support to Pre‑K programs at a variety of elementary schools Presumpscot, Rowe, Talbot, Longfellow, and possibly other programs in the district based on student need. Successful candidates will demonstrate experience and knowledge of early childhood curriculum, strategies, and classroom management. Candidates will support the classroom teacher in building student school readiness by helping to create a positive, developmentally appropriate learning environment. A working knowledge of the Maine Early Learning Development Standards and experience with Pre‑K for ME curricula, Teaching Strategies Gold and Second Step curriculum, are preferred. Successful candidates will have a passion for working with young children, bring an equity‑oriented approach to their instruction, and will hold all students to high expectations, recognizing that some may need more support to meet those expectations. Ideal candidates will have experience working with families experiencing poverty, and with students and families for whom English is a second or third language, and/or interest in working in a classroom that includes students with identified special needs. We seek teammates who are positive, collaborative, and effective communicators who will contribute actively to both the classroom and the larger PPS community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Pre‑K teacher in building student school readiness by creating a positive, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Assist in implementing early childhood curriculum, strategies, and classroom management.
  • Attend school and Pre‑K team staff meetings and professional development opportunities as appropriate and as required.
  • Take direction from the Pre‑K teacher and school administrators and report to school administrators as well as the PPS Director of Pre‑K Programs.
Credential Requirements
  • Maine State Educational Technician III (023) authorization (more info)
  • Maine State CHRC authorization (more info) – if you already have an active Ed Tech certification, you do not need a separate CHRC as this clearance is tied to your Ed Tech certification
  • Possession of or ability to attain ESSA authorization within the first year of hire
  • Level 4 status on the Maine Roads to Quality Registry within 3 years
Employment Details
  • Schedule: School Year, Full Time (1.0 FTE)
  • Assignment: Permanent
  • Reports to: School Principal & Director of Pre‑K
  • Contract: Part of Ed Tech union (see 2024‑2027 CBA)
  • Salary: Based on experience, as outlined in CBA
