Job description

We are seeking creative and energetic candidates with strongexperience in multimodal machine learning and human behavioranalysis and modeling for a Pre-Doc Specialist position in theRobotics Institute. Using recent progress in machine learning andartificial intelligence, the successful candidate will have primaryresponsibility to develop, implement, and test multimodal machinelearning algorithms to analyze and recognize multimodal humanbehavior in real world settings (e.g., Affective Computing, AI forHealthcare: pain measurement, monitoring mental health disorders).The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for allfacets of the project, including papers writing and studentsmentoring. Preference will be given to candidates with a proventrack record, demonstrating relevant skills and extensiveexperience in multimodal machine learning and human behavioranalysis (e.g., facial and gesture analysis and acoustic signalprocessing). The candidate should be enthusiastic aboutcollaborating with partners from multiple disciplines andinstitutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Write code and develop novel theoretical and practical state ofthe art artificial intelligence/machine learning algorithms thatare focused on human behavior modeling related to videoclassification using deep learning networks for end-users.

  • Work with other team members to develop and maintain softwarefor maximum efficiency and usability.

  • Designs, develops, tests and maintains applications or systemprograms.

  • Gathers and provides input on functional specifications andrequirements.

  • Perform approved research project tasks according to definedprotocols and procedures including appropriate collection,recording, storage, and analysis of data, and reporting ofresults.

  • Follow appropriate research policies and procedures andmaintains scientific integrity including accurate datastorage.

  • Communicate the daily progress of research projects viameetings with, and written reports to the research director.

  • Responsible for following the mandatory reporting proceduresfor any incident or event that did affect or potentially couldaffect the project goals and workflow.

  • Optimize protocols and improve methods currentlyemployed.

  • Coordinates work consistently to achieve maximumproductivity.

  • Demonstrates ability to deal with changes in priorities toprovide smooth and consistent workflow.

  • Interacts with interdisciplinary professional partners.

  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED:
  • Master of Science (MS) in computer vision, machine learning,artificial intelligence, or a closely related field.

  • Strong programming skills.

  • Strong background in machine learning / computer vision/ humanbehavior modeling, with specialization in one or more of thefollowing areas:, supervised/unsupervised/self-supervised learning,large vision models, multimodal foundation models, transferlearning,

  • Research experience in multimodal human behavior analysis,affective computing, AI for Healthcare, and multimodal machinelearning.

  • Very good presentation, communication, and organizationskills.

DESIRED:
  • Publications in top machine learning and/or computer visionconferences and journals.

  • Research experience involving clinical applications (e.g.,depression, pain).

  • Experience and/or enthusiasm for mentoring students.

  • Experience analyzing questionnaires and surveys.

  • Experience with grant proposal preparation andcoordination.
