Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University is a private, global research university renowned for innovations across brain science, big data, and robotics. The postdoctoral fellow will lead statistical analyses of neural population activity across brain areas, with dissemination at conferences and in journals, in collaboration with Prof.

Adam Kohn's lab. The role is housed in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a focus on independent yet collaborative research.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials Science, Physics or closely related field.
• Strong publication record in MEMS, resonators, piezoelectric devices, RF systems, or related areas.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research within a collaborative team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data, including literature search and specialized skills.
• Conduct research experiments within department/university methodology.
• Lab maintenance, equipment upkeep and supply ordering as needed.
• Assist in manuscript writing and presentations; may assist in grant writing.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) ranks among the best in the country. Our research programs are at the forefront of the technologies that have changed the world we live in. Our interdisciplinary approach to education and research allows faculty and students across the university and beyond to collaborate on problems that have a significant impact on the world around us.

The postdoctoral fellow would lead up statistical analyses of neural population activity recorded in multiple brain areas. They would also present their work at leading conferences and prepare journal manuscripts. The research is in collaboration with Prof. Adam Kohn's lab (Einstein College of Medicine), with whom we have joint research grants.

Core Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.
• Conduct research experiments within the predetermined research scope and methodology of department and university.
• Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies may be required depending on area and specialty.
• Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a closely related field
• Strong publication record in MEMS, resonators, piezoelectric devices, RF systems, or related areas
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience interacting with industry partners and mentoring junior researchers is a plus
• A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
