Job summary

Tempus AI is seeking an experienced operations supervisor for our Chicago lab, overseeing the accessioning team and the sample returns workflow. This role ensures quality, compliance, and timely processing within a dynamic clinical environment.

You will hire, train, and coach staff, monitor LIMS performance, and continuously improve processes to achieve accuracy and efficiency while collaborating across teams. Monday–Friday, on-site in Chicago.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 3-5+ years in a clinical lab or similar setting.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proven problem resolution and decision-making skills for ops/tech issues.
• Experience supervising a lab team or accessioning personnel.
• Ability to learn new skills quickly and adapt to processes.
• Strong cross-functional communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain quality standards per regulatory policies; document deviations.

• Troubleshoot issues and drive process improvements.
• Analyze processes to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Please note: The shift for this position is Monday-Friday, 11:00am-7:30pm onsite in Chicago.

What You'll Do:

• Operational management of the sample returns workflow, including staff scheduling, prioritizing workload, quality and compliance oversight and managing needs of a growing lab.

• Assign and prioritize work activities to ensure team and individual goals are met.

• Maintain quality standards in compliance with regulatory and organization policies and procedures. Identify and document occurrences that deviate from defined procedures.

• Hiring, training, annual reviews, recognition, coaching, and corrective action for the accessioning team.

• Audit LIMS reports daily to ensure all samples are processed in an appropriate time frame and with a high degree of accuracy.

• Troubleshoot issues as they arise.

• Analyze processes and continually make improvements to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and at least 3-5+ years experience working in a clinical field required

• Highly organized and systematic, superb attention to detail and ability to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

• Demonstrated problem resolution and decision-making skills for operational and technical problems.

• Proven success in a laboratory or corporate supervisory role, working with various levels of manager

• Proven ability to learn new skills quickly and adapt to new processes smoothly.

• Proven ability to communicate well across teams and functions.

CHI: $55,000-$65,000

The expected salary range may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
