Job Summary/Basic Function: A Program Supervisor at Wheaton College is the primary liaisonbetween the college and the school/classroom in which the teachercandidates are placed during their Student Teaching Practicum.Because the Program Supervisor’s primary focus is on the teachercandidates and their successful completion of the practicum, theProgram Supervisor plays a key role in guiding the candidates’development as professional educators and supporting theSupervising Practitioners’ mentorship of the candidates in localschools throughout the placement.This supervisory work includes:observing each candidate 3-4 times during the semester (duringschool hours), conducting pre- and post-observation meetings,providing actionable feedback, completing and managing statemandated documentation, and meeting with their cohort of teachercandidates (4 students) weekly (in-person or virtually).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience in public schools inelementary and/or early childhood grades
  • Strong communication and organization skills and ability towork collaboratively with elementary school and universityfaculty
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegiality
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting novice teachers (as a mentor, coach,administrator, or teacher educator)
  • Experience teaching in an inclusion classroom and working withstudents with disabilities and classified English Learners
  • Possess a Professional License in elementary or early childhoodeducation
  • Familiarity with the current, Massachusetts ProfessionalStandards for Teaching – Essential Elements
Compensation and Benefits

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitmentranges for a position, the College considers a number of factorsincluding the budget for the position, the range of the grade, theexternal market for the position or similar positions, level andscope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevantexperience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must havethe prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for thisposition is $6,000/course. The actual salary offered will becommensurate with the qualifications, education and experience ofthe candidate hired.
