Job summary

Langan Engineering & Environmental Services in Detroit, MI is seeking a Practice Leader – Civil Engineering to spearhead the firm’s growth in the Midwest. You will build and lead a cross‑functional team with executive backing and a strong regional portfolio.

You will drive business development, manage key client relationships, and supervise site/civil engineering from concept through completion, including grading, drainage and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 15+ years of site/civil engineering experience with land development.
• Professional Engineering license.
• Strong client development and management abilities.
• Experience in site/civil design from concept to completion.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or Civil 3D preferred.
• Active participation in professional organizations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail oriented with strong analytical and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development efforts and cultivate new client relationships.
• Collaborate with regional leadership to develop growth plans and staffing.
• Oversee land development engineering including integration of geotechnical and environmental aspects.
• Direct site/civil design for diverse projects from concept through completion.
• Design and permit residential, institutional, commercial centers, warehouses, and mixed‑use developments.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Practice Leader – Civil Engineering to spearhead the Firm’s growth in the Detroit, MI. This individual will play a key function in the expansion of our Midwest practice, serving as a growth engine for a quickly growing multidisciplinary operation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build and lead a cross‑functional team with the backing of executive leadership and an existing diverse, high‑profile regional portfolio.

Job Responsibilities

• Leverage an entrepreneurial demeanor to drive Business Development activities by developing new clients for the firm and maintaining relationships with existing clients;
• Work closely with regional leadership to develop growth plans and ensure staff utilization;
• Demonstrate experience in all aspects of land development engineering including the integration of geotechnical and environmental engineering;
• Lead site/civil efforts on a variety of project sites including the ability to design and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion and sediment control, etc. from concept through completion;
• Design and permit residential, institutional, commercial centers, warehouse distribution centers, and mixed‑use projects for both public and private clients; and
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering;
• 15+ years of successful, local and related site/civil engineering experience with a concentration in land development on both small and large projects;
• Professional Engineering license;
• Strong client development and client management abilities;
• Site/civil experience on a variety of project sites including the ability to design and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion and sediment control, etc. from concept through completion;
• Proficiency of AutoCAD or Civil 3D preferred;
• Active participation in professional organizations;
• Experience in technical and proposal writing;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
• Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
