Langan is seeking a Practice Leader – Civil Engineering to lead design, permitting and client development for land development projects in Portland.

This leadership role advances the Portland office and the Site/Civil discipline, overseeing staff, growth planning, and client relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 15+ years of site/civil engineering experience with land development.
• Professional Engineering license (PE).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
• Strong client development and management abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and permit residential, institutional, commercial centers, warehouse distribution centers, and mixed-use projects for public and private clients.
• Lead staffing and growth plans for the Portland office; identify new client opportunities.
• Provide oversight and supervision of junior Site/Civil staff; coach and mentor team members.
• Lead site/civil design from concept through completion: layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion and sediment control.
• Lead storm water management design, hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and SWPPP preparation.
• Demonstrate integration of geotechnical and environmental engineering in land development projects.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Practice Leader – Civil Engineering to join its collaborative team in Portland, OR. This individual will serve a key function in leading and supporting design, permitting and client management/development efforts for a variety of land development projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to grow the Portland office and contribute directly to the overall growth of the Site/Civil discipline.

Job Responsibilities

• Design and permit residential, institutional, commercial centers, warehouse distribution centers, and mixed‑use projects for both public and private clients;
• Work closely with office leadership to develop growth plans and ensure staff utilization;
• Lead staffing and hiring initiatives for the Portland office;
• Participate in the identification and pursuit of new clients, develop additional work within an existing project, and attend business development meetings with new and existing clients;
• Provide direct oversight and management of junior staff for specific project assignments. Coach, train, and motivate Site/Civil staff;
• Lead site/civil efforts on a variety of project sites including the ability to design and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion and sediment control, etc. from concept through completion;
• Lead storm water management design, hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and design and SWPPP preparation;
• Demonstrate experience in all aspects of land development engineering including the integration of geotechnical and environmental engineering;
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering;
• 15+ years of successful, local and related site/civil engineering experience with a concentration in land development on both small and large projects;
• Professional Engineering license;
• Site/civil experience on a variety of project sites including the ability to design and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion and sediment control, etc. from concept through completion;
• Strong client development and client management abilities;
• Proficiency of AutoCAD or Civil 3D preferred;
• Active participation in professional organizations;
• Experience in technical and proposal writing;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
• Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
