Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Powertrain Emissions Test Engineer in Chelsea, MI to develop and execute diagnostic and emissions test procedures for powertrain systems. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure proper Check Engine Light triggering, fault detection, and CARB compliance, while leveraging MATLAB modeling for validation and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with automotive or powertrain test equipment.
• Proven ability to write detailed and repeatable test procedures for diagnostic and emissions validation.
• Experience with emissions testing and CARB compliance.
• Knowledge of diagnostic testing for powertrain systems, including fault detection and Check Engine Light logic.
• Experience with calibration and emissions test activities for powertrain systems.
• Proficiency with MATLAB for modeling and validation.
• Strong data analysis skills and ability to identify trends.
• Problem-solving skills for GPF performance, regeneration, and emissions.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports and documentation.
• Collaborative experience with cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive test procedures to validate proper triggering of the Check Engine Light across vehicle systems.
• Define and implement enable conditions, test logic, boundary conditions, and decision logic for fault detection in powertrain and diagnostic systems.
• Ensure vehicle systems collect environmental and operational data upon fault activation.
• Validate that diagnostic systems correctly identify and report fault codes, including P-codes for transmission sensor failures.
• Coordinate with test and engineering facilities to schedule and share results across teams.
• Ensure diagnostic data, test procedures, and documentation meet CARB compliance and emissions standards.
• Use MATLAB modeling to support diagnostic logic development, simulation, and validation.
• Conduct engine dynamometer and vehicle road tests to evaluate GPF performance and emissions.
• Analyze complex emissions datasets to identify trends and calibration opportunities.
• Prepare clear technical reports and communication of findings.
