Job summary

Indiana University Health in Indianapolis seeks a Powerhouse Operator to maintain the Central Utility Plant's electro/mechanical systems. This is a full-time 40-hour-per-week role with an on-call rotation, and a night shift from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

You will operate, repair and document preventive maintenance on boilers, generators and related equipment, monitor meters and gauges, and regulate water, fuel, steam pressure and oxygen safely.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Power Engineering Certification preferred.
• Knowledge of stationary engines, electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Familiarity with federal, state, local, OSHA and Joint Commission regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
• Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Operates, repairs, documents and performs preventive maintenance needs of the powerhouse electro/mechanical systems within the facility. Operates stationary engines and mechanical equipment, which may include steam boilers, generators, steam turbines, air conditioners, distillers, water softeners and other auxiliary equipment to provide utility services. Observes meters and gauges to determine operating conditions of equipment and to regulate flow of water, fuel, steam pressure and oxygen in accordance with needs and safety standards. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Power Engineering Certification is preferred.
• Requires general knowledge of stationary engines, electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Requires current knowledge of various federal; state; local; OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and Joint Commission codes and regulations.
• Requires the ability to read and interpret information from blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
• Requires a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
