Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician to perform preventive and corrective maintenance across hospital systems at Arnett Hospital. You will troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, HVAC and life-safety components, while maintaining interior spaces and ensuring safety standards are met.

The role requires a high school diploma, knowledge of building codes, and 2+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • May require valid Indiana driver's license with proof of insurance.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, fire, and air systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Experience with power and hand tools.
  • Basic computer skills; healthcare building codes preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled and non-scheduled preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment.
  • Responds to dispatched general maintenance service calls in a timely manner; troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains secondary utility systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC).
  • Maintains interior spaces including drywall repair, painting, and touch-up work.
  • General upkeep of interior spaces and maintenance of specialized machinery per codes and safety standards.
  • Identifies deficiencies and recommends improvements through appropriate channels.
  • Supports patient care objectives by ensuring facility systems operate safely and effectively.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities with other departments and services.
  • Conducts routine inspections of buildings and grounds; documents activities and reports findings.
  • Adheres to organizational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs scheduled and non-scheduled preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment.
  • Responds to dispatched general maintenance service calls in a timely manner. Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains secondary utility systems, including Plumbing systems, Air-conditioning systems, Electrical systems, Air handling and ventilation systems.
  • Performs interior building maintenance, including Interior wall finishing, drywall repair and patching, surface preparation, painting and touch-up work.
  • General upkeep of interior spaces.
  • Maintains, repairs, and inspects specialized machinery and equipment in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Identifies facility equipment and system deficiencies and recommends improvements or corrective actions through appropriate channels.
  • Supports patient care objectives by ensuring facility systems and equipment operate safely and effectively.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities and functions with other departments and services.
  • Conducts routine inspections of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Documents maintenance activities and reports findings as required.
  • Adheres to organizational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • May require a valid Indiana driver's license with proof of insurance.
  • Requires general knowledge of specialized areas including electrical secondary systems, plumbing systems, fire system devices and air systems.
  • Requires the ability to read and interpret information from blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
  • Requires general knowledge in the use of power and hand tools.
  • Requires basic computer skills. Knowledge of applicable building codes related to healthcare is preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
