Indiana University Health is seeking a Facilities Supervisor for its new Central Utility Plant in Downtown Indianapolis, onsite 7:00am–3:30pm, Monday–Friday. This role leads a skilled team, oversees boilers, chillers, steam and water systems, and guides startup activities to ensure reliable patient care support across a large hospital campus.

The ideal candidate will have HVAC, electrical and plumbing expertise, strong leadership, and a track record of preventive maintenance and asset management

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED. Associate's Degree in applicable discipline preferred.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, coordinating and supervising operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Organizes work, estimates worker-hour requirements and delegates tasks to technicians.
  • Schedules preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems.
  • Trains technicians in repair and maintenance using manuals, orders and blueprints.
  • Assists technicians with maintenance calls and troubleshooting of utility systems.

Candidate Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Required. Associate's Degree in applicable discipline preferred.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of specialized areas including electrical secondary systems, plumbing systems, fire system devices, air systems and HVAC related systems.
  • Requires ability to read and interpret information from complex blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
  • Requires in depth knowledge of hazardous material management, NFPA Life Safety Code, State Fire Marshall and NFPA 99 requirements.
  • Requires comprehensive understanding of codes and regulations associated with maintenance utility operation including the requirements of the JCAHO, SDOH, OSHA, and other federal, state and local agencies.
  • Requires a minimum of 1 year relevant experience leading teams and 5 years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical or other utility systems.

While candidates who meet the minimum qualifications are encouraged to apply, the ideal candidate will bring:

  • Previous Central Utility Plant or Powerhouse operations experience (strongly preferred).
  • Experience overseeing steam, chilled water, boilers, and related mechanical systems.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing technical or maintenance teams.
  • Boiler Operator Certification or willingness to obtain certification within the first year.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification or willingness to obtain within the first year.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, asset management, and operational planning.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • A broad mechanical aptitude and understanding of multiple facility trades and systems.
Role Responsibilities

  • Assists technicians as needed with maintenance calls, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repair of various utility systems.
