Job summary

Siemens Energy in the United States seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer for core and clamping assemblies in power transformers. You will translate electrical design outputs into robust mechanical solutions, model with CAD tools, and generate BOMs for component orders.

You will support manufacturing through inspections, failure analysis, and vendor development, while collaborating on R&D to drive product improvements and perform structural analyses using ANSYS/CREO simulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 3+ years of experience in core and clamping or active part design for transformers
• Strong knowledge of structural steel parts, insulation components, and core grades
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CREO/PROe/Inventor) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD)
• Experience with BOM tools like SAP and product data management systems

Responsibilities

• Understand electrical design outputs and perform mechanical design, development, and analysis of core and clamping assemblies.
• Support manufacturing processes with quality inspections and failure analysis; manage vendor development.
• Model designs with CAD and create engineering drawings; ensure accurate BOMs.
• Prepare core cutting lists for precise cutting and slitting of cores.
• Learn transformer design rules and use design calculation tools for core and clamp.
• Collaborate on R&D projects and perform advanced calculations including structural analysis (e.g., ANSYS, CREO simulate).
