Job summary

Monroe County Community College is seeking a Power Systems Operator Trainee to operate and maintain boilers, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems and related equipment on campus in Frenchtown Township, MI. The trainee will learn through hands-on tasks, rounds, and formal training to gain competency within up to three years.

Responsibilities include assisting in event setups, monitoring work orders, keeping records, and attending required trainings and meetings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Minimum of one year of related experience.
• Basic operation of computers and knowledge of electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to work on ladders or in tight spaces; outdoors in all weather; lift up to 65 lbs; good mechanical ability.
• Willingness to obtain Building Operators Certification (BOC).

Responsibilities

• Assist with on-campus event set-ups and restore spaces to original configurations.
• Monitor the electronic facilities reservation system and track changes.
• Maintain daily email, calendar management, and communications.
• Complete all assigned training courses.
• Attend mandatory meetings and training; shifts may be adjusted for training.
• Conduct rounds per shift to monitor gas, water, electrical and fire alarm panels.
• Inspect and maintain boilers, HVAC, plumbing and water systems.
• Maintain records of equipment, inspections, repairs, parts usage.
• Maintain motors and pumps; cover on-call and holidays.
• Other duties as assigned.
