Job summary

Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) in Colorado Springs, CO, is seeking a Research Engineer (Electrical / Power Systems) to support rapid R&D and power systems research on-site.

You will collaborate with engineers and technicians on long-term programs for DoD/DoE customers. The role requires a Master’s in Electrical Engineering (or related), or relevant experience, plus strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or additional experience in lieu of Master’s)
• 2–4 years of directly applicable power systems experience preferred
• F.E. exam completion or E.I.T. certification desirable
• Experience with data acquisition equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, voltage/current probes)
• Experience with modeling software for power systems (Aspen, SKM, RTDS, EMTP) and scripting (MATLAB, Python)
• Experience in analytical modeling and the scientific process
• Active DoD TS or DoE Q security clearance preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and apply physics first principles
• Model and simulate problems; interpret real-world test data
• Assist development of specifications and requirements
• Design and execute specialized tests with peer oversight
• Write test plans, technical reports, and maintain project documentation
• Deliver technical briefings and collaborate with engineering teams
