Job summary

Fortescue Colorado Innovation Center is seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to help evaluate, develop, and prioritize renewable energy and power-system technologies aligned with decarbonization and electrification goals.

You will build techno-economic analyses, develop high-level models for renewables, storage, and microgrids, and engage stakeholders across universities, labs, utilities, and industry partners to drive deployment and value creation.

Qualifications

Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

Technology strategy and assessment for emerging energy, energy storage, grid integration, and power conversion technologies; monitor trends; develop roadmaps; define R&D, demonstration, deployment opportunities.
Power system modelling and analysis: develop and maintain high-level models for renewable generation, storage, transmission, and microgrid architectures. Validate model assumptions and use sensitivity analysis.
Techno-economic assessment: lead analyses of renewable power and energy infrastructure innovations; develop business cases; quantify costs, energy production, emissions impacts, and value; support prioritization.
Project development and innovation: support research, pilot, demonstration, and commercialization programs; define technical requirements and success criteria; identify deployment opportunities; support external funding.
Stakeholder engagement: build relationships with universities, nationwide laboratories, technology developers, utilities, engineering firms, and industry partners; represent Fortescue externally; communicate findings through executive presentations.
