Job summary

Primetals Technologies USA LLC in Alpharetta, GA seeks a Consulting Power Engineer to lead HV substation, SVC and STATCOM projects. You will apply power systems engineering and power electronics to control voltage, improve power quality, and address flicker on site.

Responsibilities include SVC sizing, design calculations, protection settings, and technical support during commissioning. A bachelor's or master's in electrical engineering with multi-year experience is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; 7+ years' post-bachelor experience; OR Master’s degree with 5+ years' experience in electrical engineering.
• Experience with SVC/STATCOM projects, power systems analysis, and HV substation design.
• Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE and ANSI standards; ability to develop SLD/TLD, BOM and cable schedules.

Responsibilities

• Participate in engineering, design and integration of HV Substation, SVC and STATCOM projects.
• Apply advanced power systems engineering to control voltage and improve power quality.
• Perform SVC sizing, design calculations and Arc Furnace compatibility studies.
• Develop basic and detailed engineering packages (HV substations, SLD, TLD, BOM).
• Review installation and civil drawings for integration with electrical designs.
• Perform steady-state and transient power system analyses.
• Provide relay settings for protection equipment, TCRs, and filters.
• Perform preventive maintenance on SVC/STATCOM per standards.
• Assist site commissioning, installation and testing; troubleshoot issues.
• Analyze fault data, determine root causes and engineer resolutions during outages.
• Coordinate with proposals team, customers and vendors to freeze technical requirements at project start.
• Negotiate technical terms with sub-vendors; ensure budgets and schedules.
• Apply NESC/NEC/IEEE/ANSI standards to specify equipment.
