Job summary

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an Engineer (Power System) to join the Hydroelectric Maintenance and Engineering Team at the La Verne facility. You will lead power system studies, validate models, and support electrical safety and regulatory compliance across 230 kV systems and related infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and six years of relevant experience, two at Associate Engineer level.
• OR Master’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience, two at Associate Engineer level.
• Experience modeling, data collection, and analysis for arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct power system studies across facilities, including short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, and motor starting analyses.
• Develop and maintain power system models of record and validate data via field investigations.
• Develop protective relay settings and arc flash analyses, including PPE requirements and labeling.
• Support medium- and high-voltage equipment up to 230 kV and evaluate diagnostic results.
• Investigate equipment failures and system anomalies to support safe, reliable operation.
• Provide technical leadership, review designs, and coordinate with consultants and vendors.
