Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Power Systems Engineer at the Magna, Utah site (Level 2 or 3). You will design low- and medium-voltage power systems, develop control philosophies, and create detailed electrical drawings for industrial process equipment used in solid propulsion motor manufacturing.

The role requires working knowledge of PLCs (Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell), field‑work capability, and experience with AutoCAD drafting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field; experience in industrial facility or electrical design is expected.
  • Experience designing low- and medium-voltage power systems.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical drawings required.

Responsibilities

  • Work on multi-disciplinary projects for power system design, control systems, and machine safety for propellant manufacturing equipment.
  • Design and specify low- and medium-voltage distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, panels, UPSs, and backup generators.
  • Develop control philosophies, P&IDs, and electrical control systems using PLCs and controllers.
  • Create electrical drawings including P&IDs, one-line diagrams, schematics, and panel layouts.
  • Program servo drives and VFDs for motor control applications.
  • Oversee installation, startup and commissioning with internal teams and external contractors.
  • Manage projects from conception to completion with budgets and schedules.

Power Systems Engineer – Level 2 or 3

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Power Systems Engineer (Level2 or3) to join our team at the Bacchus facility in Magna, Utah.

Relocation assistance may be available. Travel: Yes, 10% of the time. Clearance required for start: No. Clearance type: None.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multi‑disciplined project team on comprehensive power system design, control systems, and machine safety for industrial process equipment used in the manufacturing of solid propulsion rocket motors.
  • Design and specify low‑ and medium‑voltage power distribution systems, including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, power distribution panels, high‑resistance grounding, UPSs, and backup generators.
  • Develop control philosophies, P&IDs, and electrical control systems using Allen‑Bradley PLCs and Schneider SmartX controllers.
  • Create electrical drawings: P&IDs, one‑line diagrams, schematics, panel arrangements, BOMs, device layouts, power and control distribution, loop diagrams, panel schedules, conduit layouts, and grounding plans.
  • Program servo drives and variable‑frequency drives for motor control applications.
  • Design support systems such as fire detection, camera & audio surveillance, lightning & grounding protection, and Ethernet & fiber communication systems.
  • Oversee installation, startup, and commissioning of newly designed systems with internal teams and external contractors.
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, including mechanical, civil, and other craft oversight, budget, and schedule control.
  • Provide detailed cost estimates and develop electrical maintenance guidelines.
  • Work in field environments, including climbing ladders, outdoor work, and confined spaces.
Basic Qualifications – Level2
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 2years of industrial facility or electrical design engineering experience, or 0years with a Master’s degree.
  • Experience designing low‑ and medium‑voltage power systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, including Allen‑Bradley and Rockwell software.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Field‑work capability (climbing ladders, working outdoors, confined spaces).
Basic Qualifications – Level3
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 5years of industrial facility or electrical design experience, or 3years of related experience with a Master’s degree.
  • Experience designing low‑ and medium‑voltage power systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, including Allen‑Bradley and Rockwell software.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Field‑work capability (climbing ladders, working outdoors, confined spaces).
Preferred Requirements
  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Power system design experience.
  • Industrial control design experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • AutoCAD drafting ability.
  • PLC systems and programming experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Compensation

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300–$118,900. Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400–$147,600. Base salary is determined by role scope, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply.

Work Schedule

Standard schedule is 9/80 or 4/10. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine‑hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off; the 4/10 schedule has ten‑hour days Monday through Thursday.
