Job summary

The NYISO invites applications for a full-time Planning Engineer to coordinate and perform interconnection studies for new generation, transmission and load facilities across the New York State transmission system. You will also assist in coordinating with SRP/NYISO departments as necessary and respond to inquiries.

Required are a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and two years of power-system planning experience, with knowledge of PSS/E, PowerGEM TARA, and ASPEN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required; power system planning/design preferred.
• Two years of experience in power system planning or transmission design required; knowledge of software/tools mentioned.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and produce reports and presentations with tables, charts and graphs.

Responsibilities

• Reviews proposed project facilities including conceptual design for interconnection of the project to the NYS transmission system and associated modeling data.
• Prepares base cases to be used in interconnection studies.
• Provides technical coordination with project developers, transmission owners, consultants, etc.
• Performs or reviews the technical analysis (power flow, short circuit, and/or stability analysis) for interconnection studies.
• Evaluates and identifies system upgrade facilities and cost estimates for proposed upgrades.
• Prepares and/or reviews interconnection study reports and related documentation.
• Leads and/or participates in project study meetings.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Master’s degree in Electric Power System Engineering (preferred)
