Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced engineer to own requirements and specifications for alternators and Belt Integrated Starter Generators (BiSG). You will translate vehicle-level needs into precise component specs, lead root-cause analyses with 8D and Six Sigma, and collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure robust designs.

You will also benchmark and teardown systems, apply ASIL principles to power distribution, and drive DV/PV test plans to meet GPDS milestones.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, own and author technical requirements, design specs and validation plans for alternators and BiSG.
  • Translate vehicle-level requirements into component specifications.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for design, warranty and manufacturing issues using 8D and Six Sigma.
  • Coordinate with quality, manufacturing, and supplier teams to resolve issues and prevent failures.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate technologies and ensure standards.
  • Conduct benchmarking and teardowns of alternator/BiSG systems.
  • Apply ASIL principles to low voltage power supply systems.
  • Own delivery and meet GPDS program timing milestones.
  • Develop and execute supplier DV/PV test plans and containment actions.
  • Review SREA submissions for design changes; support sourcing via evaluations and teardowns.

Job description

  • Develop, own and author technical requirements, design specifications, validation plans and device transmittals for alternators and Belt Starter Generators (BISG)
  • Translate vehicle-level performance, packaging, and electrical load requirements into component-level specifications
  • Identify and mitigate critical failure modes
  • Define and maintain targets for output performance, efficiency, NVH, thermal management, and mechanical durability
  • Lead root-cause analysis for design, warranty, and manufacturing issues using 8D and Six Sigma principles
  • Coordinate with quality, manufacturing, and supplier engineering teams to resolve quality issues and prevent failures
  • Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate emerging alternator/BISG technologies and ensure design, manufacturing, and quality standards
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking and teardown analysis of alternator and BISG systems
  • Apply ASIL principles to the low voltage power supply system
  • Own component delivery and meet GPDS program timing milestones
  • Develop and execute supplier DV/PV test plans
  • Lead recovery plans for supplier DV/PV failures and containment actions
  • Review supplier SREA submissions for design, manufacturing, and material changes
  • Support supplier sourcing through engineering evaluations and hardware teardowns
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Experience with Local Interconnect Network (LIN) and Controller Area Network (CAN) communication
  • 5+ years of experience with alternators and Belt Integrated Starter Generators (BiSG)
  • Experience writing detailed component specifications
  • Experience with root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Familiarity with functional safety concepts, including Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL)
  • 5+ years of experience in component design and release highly desired
  • Master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field is an additional qualification
  • Strong understanding and practical application of 8D and Six Sigma quality tools; Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred
  • Experience with vehicle electrical architecture and automotive power distribution systems
  • Familiarity with Ford engineering processes and tools, including FEDE, Jama, GPDS, and Jira
  • Experience conducting FMEA and other risk assessment techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Visa sponsorship is not available
