Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Civil Engineer to support transmission and distribution projects across multiple locations, including Charlotte. You will design civil components, review drawings, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with project managers.

This role requires strong CAD skills, FE or ABET credentials, and hands-on field experience. You will contribute to field inspections, QA/QC, and technical leadership within a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related ABET-accredited program with 3 years experience.
• Alternative: ABET degree in Civil Engineering Tech with FE + 3 years.
• Master's degree with 2 years experience.
• Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MathCAD, and/or hydraulic/hydrologic analysis tools (HEC-RAS, HydroCAD).
• Experience with QA/QC and field inspections.

Responsibilities

• Perform civil design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for transmission and distribution projects.
• Design civil components for project needs as set forth by project managers.
• Provide leadership and guidance to the civil engineering practice and mentor junior staff.
• Conduct field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
• Ensure QA/QC process adherence and proper communication with other disciplines.
• Compile data, studies, and reports as required by project managers.
