Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a Product Engineer to join our R&D team in Boise, ID. The role centers on voicing customer needs for product development, with a focus on usability, documentation, and market alignment.

The candidate will analyze markets, support sales, and collaborate with Product Managers and development engineers to prioritize work. Travel up to 25% and strong communication skills are expected.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
• 2+ years of electric power or industrial system integration/automation experience.
• 2+ years of technical marketing experience required.
• Excellent technical and marketing presentation and writing skills.
• Willing to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of product lines, applications, competition, and markets.
• Analyze competitor products and prepare technical product comparison reports.
• Serve as primary technical contact to sales, marketing, operations, and others for in-service product support.
• Specify product requirements and work with Product Managers to ensure features meet customer/market needs.
• Prioritize development activities with development engineers and product managers to meet customer needs.
• Prepare product documentation including data sheets, flyers, instruction manuals, release notes, and service bulletins.
• Perform product validation testing and approve validation results.
• Participate in industry technical meetings and conferences.
• Prepare and present technical product presentations.
• Maintain an end user system operational understanding of technology families and priorities.
• Assist with concept documents or drawings for new product ideas.
